Purpose of the role:
The Test Engineer will play a key role in ensuring high-quality, auditable data is produced in line with company quality processes while supporting the development and execution of robust testing for Ceres’ Solid Oxide technologies. This role involves preparing and configuring test stands and platforms, installing test pieces, and executing test plans to validate performance.
Responsibilities include reviewing and analysing test data, producing detailed reports, and presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders. The engineer will provide accurate, timely updates to test management, lead fault-finding and issue investigations, and contribute to improvement projects. Additional duties include creating work instructions, standard operating procedures, and risk assessments; supporting the Test Capability team in the design and development of test stands; assisting the Test Strategy team in developing test plans; and maintaining or modifying test equipment as required.
Knowledge and skills required for the role:
BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng level in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or similar
Ability to visualise and summarise data, perform basic sense checking, identify inconsistencies and perform basic thermodynamic calculations, e.g. efficiency, simple heat balances
Ability to read and produce technical documents including mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and P&IDs
Sound report writing skills and the ability to communicate results and deliver presentations to colleagues and management
Grasp new concepts quickly and develop a good working knowledge of Ceres Power products and their operation
Delivery-focused and highly motivated, capable of handling multiple priorities and working alone as well as part of a high-performing team
Ability to plan and manage work packages
Makes decisions and solves problems guided by policies, procedures, and the business plan
Solves complex problems and takes a new perspective on existing solutions
Has advanced and specialised expertise, typically developed through a combination of job-related training and considerable work experience
Works autonomously within established procedures and practices
Proposes improvements to processes
Ability to produce risk assessments and other similar safety tools, e.g. HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA
